Esta música e seu clip foram gravados em Novembro de 1984, com a participação de vários artistas de 1a. linha do Pop/Rock Britânico. A idéia inicial deste projeto, onde toda a sua arrecadação foi para ajudar as crianças da Etiópia, assim como a letra da música, foi de Bob Geldof e Midge Urge. Em 11 de Março de 1985 eles conseguiram enviar mais de USD 70.000,00 em alimentos e medicamentos.

O clip mostra a gravação da música com toda a turma envolvida e todo o backstage, deste a chegada das bandas no estúdio (alguns levando seus filhos, esposas e maridos), o encontro dos músicos trocando idéias, formando grupinhos de baixistas (Jonh Taylor do Duran Duran, Martuin Kemp do Spandau Ballet), bateristas (Phill Collins, com Roger Taylor do DD, e Jonh Moss do Culture Club), e vocalista (Bono do U2, Simon do DD e George Michael, que na época fazia parte do Wham!)

Participaram deste projeto na gravação ou ajudando na idealização: Bananarama, Bob Geldof, Culture Club, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Eurythmiics, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Heaven 17, Human League, Kool and the Gang, Midge Urge, Paul McCartney, Paul Young, Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet, Status Quo, The Style Council, U2 e Wham!.

Nem todos compareceram na gravação do clip, mas todos que estiveram presente, sem exceção, aparecem na telinha, nem que seja por 2 segundos, fazendo parte do coro no final da música, onde são mostrados em posição de coral mesmo.
